Being a fan of the original Evangelion series, I was really excited to hear that it is about to be remade to reach out to new fans. This film does not fail to disappoint even the truest of fans. In fact, it is a great way to be familiar with the series with fresh eyes. More importantly, it analyzes the series from a different perspective. By that there is new animation, better storytelling, great understanding of themes and more importantly, a new direction for the series.
I would most definitely recommend watching this in the original Japanese dub because the performances in the English dub are just plain terrible, however considering this came out in the early mid 90s, there are some exceptions. It is without a doubt one of the most popular series in Japan let alone one of the most famous manga stories every adapted.

In 2046, people can access a virtual network known as the Neurolinker via their cellphone terminals. A perpetual victim of bullying, middle school student Haruyuki spends his time absorbed in games in a corner of his local network. One day he is approached by the most famous girl in his school, Kuroyukihime (Black Snow Princess). The title of this series is Seiken no Burakkusumisu, which can literally be translated to “The Sacred Sword Blacksmith”.
Just listen to the dub…it is just hilarious for how ridiculous the character sound when they communicate to each other.
Kaoru Hanabishi, a college student who lives alone, met a beautiful but bewildered girl dressed in a kimono at a train station. He volunteered to guide her way to the address she was looking for, which happened to be in his neighborhood, but turned out to be an empty lot. Not knowing what to do next, Kaoru invited the devastated girl to his apartment and asked for any additional clues to her destination. She supplied him with a photo of two children whom Kauru immediately identified as himself and Aoi Sakuraba, his childhood friend. It turned out that the girl in front of him is Aoi Sakuraba herself, his betrothed fiancee who came all the way to Tokyo to marry him. Her revelation was not only surprising but also reminded the deepest part of Kaoru’s memory for why he left the Hanabishi family in the first place.

God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is the gravekeeper for a village. She has prepared 47 graves for the eventual deaths of every member of the village. Later, a man who identifies himself as “Hampnie Hambart, the ‘Man-eating Toy’,” which is coincidentally the name that Ai’s mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody. Just what is going on?
