Ranma 1/2

Image

Here is a classic anime series that defined the genre of transsexual characters, or perhaps slowly erupted around the world. Sixteen year old Ranma Saotome is a martial arts student. During training in China, he had an accident when he fell into a spring that is apparently cursed. When splashed in cold water, Ranma becomes a girl while hot water changes him back into a boy. The series follows Ranma’s adventures after this incident where Ranma is expected to marry one of three potential suitors to continue the martial school family line. However there are few outrageous twists and turns in Ranma’s relationships among other characters as Ranma also attempts to undo the curse bestowed upon him.

Chobits gives audiences a glimpse into that possible future where personal computers take the form of humans, particularly women, called Persocoms (actually meaning personal computers in Japanese). Hideki Motosuwa arrives into the city to enter cram school in the hopes of passing the next college entrance exam. While passing an alley, he discovers an abandoned persocom in the trash. And this new find isn’t exactly what Hideki expects it to be – she has no operating system and only says “Chi”.

School Rumble

Image

This anime series was shown after School Days, back to back and boy, wasn’t it on a different scale of genres. Following School Days, it follows the lives of high school students where a love triangle begins a series of events involving the rest of the school. But unlike School Days, School Rumble delivers laughs galore. This is an enjoyable series purely for its comical effects and the way it approaches relationships in a cartoonish way.
